Information retrieval is a comprehensive task involving several subtasks from domain of storing, analysis and searching in data. Basic task is storing of documents and then searching for an request for a question set by user. The aim is thus proper semantic interpretation of document contents. The document is here basic text unit, which is processed by a system and is searchable. The range of documents depends on specific task, from literary works, web pages, newspaper articles, to short units like paragraphs or sentences. Result of the search is not only one document, but a set of documetns relevant to topic expressed by user request. Further subtasks within information retrieval are document categorization, association of similar documents, segmantation and summarization of a text.
